Sam Walcroft is a Brisbane-based filmmaker, writer, and director.
Sam makes films about love that the world refuses to allow. Working in science fiction, gothic fantasy, and romantic drama, his work is defined by visual opulence, emotional severity, and a preoccupation with beauty under threat.
Born and raised in Brisbane, Queensland, Sam's filmmaking is rooted in the Australian landscape — its warmth, its isolation, its capacity to hold both tenderness and menace in the same frame. He shoots on cinema-grade formats with an emphasis on naturalistic light and rich colour, treating intimacy and violence with equal visual reverence.
His short Celestial Bodies, a science fiction romance set in 1950s rural Queensland, follows a farmer sheltering an alien with healing powers. When their hidden love is discovered, fear becomes violence — establishing Sam as a filmmaker unafraid to use genre to ask urgent, human questions.
He is also a poet, currently developing a manuscript for self-publication.
